| Cora Willis Calaway
(b. Dec. 26, 1892; d. Dec. 31, 1986) |
| Cora Calaway was the daughter of Annie Graham Willis (b. Sept. 25, 1855; d. Dec. 14, 1936) and Robert L. Willis (b. Nov. 16, 1858; d. July 24, 1939). She married William O. Calaway. She died at the Ridge Crest Nursing Home, West Monroe, LA. and is buried in the Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe. Three of Annie Graham's sisters married three of Robert L. Willis' brothers. They were Julia Ann Graham married Daniel H. Willis, Jr., Demerius Graham married Calvin Willis, and Maggie Graham married Dempsey Willis. The four Graham sisters were daughters of Robert Graham (b. Aug. 20, 1818; d. Feb. 10, 1890) and Ruth Smith (b. Dec. 5, 1813; d. June 2, 1869). The four Willis' brothers were sons of Rev. Daniel H. Willis, Sr. and Anna Slaughter (b. May 29, 1820; d. Mar. 24, 1876). Rev. Daniel H. Willis, Sr. was the first grandson of Rev. Joseph Willis to enter the ministry. Many more descendants of Rev. Joseph Willis were to follow. These four Willis/Graham marriages produced 25 double-first-cousins. Cora Willis Calaway was the last of these cousins to pass on. She was a dear friend and cousin. She once shared an experience with me in which she said she died and went to heaven. She spoke of a bright light there and beautiful singing. She was a devout Christian. |
