| Joseph Willis Granite Monument Article |
|
On January 18, 1955, just over 100 years after his death, 250 people along with 16 ministers gathered in freezing weather to unveil a monument in the memory of Joseph Willis at Occupy Cemetery.
Beginning over 80 years ago, my grandmother, Lillie Hanks Willis started collecting ever newspaper article, photo, and book she could on Joseph Willis and his descendants. She gave them all to me before she died! These articles and stories handed down first ignited the flame in me to learn more about grandfather Joseph Willis. The following article is one of my favorites grandmother gave to me. I also will be e-mailing a sheet that was given to the 250 attendees on January 18, 1955, at Occupy Cemetery; it is full of facts about Joseph Willis. |
